Category Ball Toss

Toss a ball around the circle — whoever catches it names something in the category before tossing it on.

Make it yours: Set the category to whatever you're teaching — colours, animals, verbs, state capitals, chemical elements.

5–10 min

Materials:

A soft ball or beanbag

• All ages
• Teach something new
• No prep needed
• Under 10 min
• Review / test knowledge
• Stays in place
• Whole class together

How to play

1. Stand or sit in a circle.
2. Call out a category — colours, for example.
3. Toss the ball to someone. They name something in the category, then toss it to someone else.
4. No repeats — if you can't think of a new one, or repeat one already said, sit out until the next round.

Variations

• For younger students, pass or roll the ball instead of throwing it.
